Nationwide Therapy Group is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Roanoke, Virginia.

Guaranteed Hours: 48/week

Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 1 year PCU/Stepdown experience
• Charting: Epic required
• Certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Skills: Telemetry, interpretation & management of dysrhythmias, rapid response, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care, management of cardiac drips (no titration), oxygen therapy (NC, masks, CPAP, BiPAP), isolation precautions, chest tubes, PICC, trach care, IV drips (Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Lasix, Bumex, Dopamine/Dobutamine low dose)
• Travel Experience: Not required
• Patient Ratio: Current 1:5, goal 1:4

Unit Information

• Type: PCU/Stepdown (LOC for Medical ICU) – General Medicine / Teaching unit
• Beds: 20 (25 capacity, 5 blocked; semi-private rooms)
• Census: ~20 patients
• Vent Capacity: 2 beds (chronic trach, not ICU-level)
• Support Services: PT, RT, Radiology, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Social Services, Unit Secretary, Transport, RRTs
• Special Notes:
  • Telemetry remote with monitors on unit
  • May float to other PCU/MS units as needed
  • CNA support not always guaranteed
  • Residents & mid-levels in-house

Scheduling & Coverage

• Type: Self-scheduling
• Ratios: Day/Night/Weekend – 1:6 (goal 1:4–1:5)
• Float: Occasional
• Weekend Coverage: Required, minimum 6 shifts per 6-week schedule
• Holiday Coverage: 1 per 13-week contract (2 during winter holidays)
• Orientation: 32 hours + 5 hours modules + 2 hours Epic training
