Reports to: Chief Executive Officer and Principal

Term: Ten (10) month position, salaried

POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Instructional Assistant performs duties that are instructional in nature or deliver direct services to students or parents. Serves in a position for which a teacher or another professional has ultimate responsibility for the design and implementation of educational programs and services.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Discussing assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts
• Preparing lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations
• Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods
• Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
• Assists in administering diagnostic and other tests
• Monitors and reports behavior of students according to approved procedures; reports progress regarding student performance and behavior
• Performs routine clerical duties such as preparation of instructional and classroom materials; operates copy machines; maintains classroom records; maintains attendance records
• Provides support to the teacher by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audiovisual equipment, operating educational training equipment and distributing and collecting papers and supplies.
• Confers, as needed, with teachers concerning programs and materials to meet student needs
• Assist students by providing proper examples, emotional support, a friendly attitude and general guidance

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of an Associate's degree
• Prefer a minimum of two years experience in an educational setting
• Knowledge of office software and experience using computers
• Ability to work with children, adults, and parents
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties required
