About the Role

The Company is in search of a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to play a pivotal role in providing strategic guidance and leadership across all operational functions. The COO will be a key advisor to the President, with a focus on driving financial sustainability, expanding funding streams, and optimizing resource allocation. This executive will also be responsible for strategic oversight of administrative departments and must be a proactive and accessible communicator, bridging connections between various stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years' of progressive leadership experience, with a strong background in strategic financial management, and a proven ability to influence and represent executive and board leadership effectively. Candidates for the COO position at the company should possess a high level of executive presence, emotional intelligence, and strong consultative instincts. A background in a biomedical research institute or a similar non-profit research environment is preferred, and a strong understanding of fundraising and philanthropic strategies is highly desirable. The role requires a leader with exceptional strategic guidance skills across diverse administrative functions, particularly in the current climate of uncertain federal funding for research. The COO will be expected to make clear, data-driven recommendations and decisions, and to have a high-level understanding of administrative functions, their business necessity, and strategic impacts.
